Mississippi Today is looking to speak to residents of Jackson and Mississippi who utilize federally-funded assistance programs such as Medicaid health insurance, SNAP or “food stamps”, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families basic cash assistance, HUD Section 8 or housing choice vouchers, child care vouchers, and others.
We would love to hear from you about your experience with affordability in Jackson and Mississippi and are looking for residents who would be willing to participate in a story about what these programs mean to them and how they could be impacted by legislation to cut them or limit eligibility in them.
The undercover operation that led to federal corruption charges for Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba and Councilman Aaron Banks mimicked stings that the feds carried out in other U.S. cities. The local officials have vowed to fight the charges.
